PARIS FASHION WEEK: Balenciaga’s Shock Tactics

The Balenciaga Fall collection was a display of disproportionate heights and extreme structural creations. Exaggerated jumpers and padded sweaters were moulded into constructions of challenging proportions, while sniff A-line skirts were contradicted by fluid textures of sheer, shine and sheen. Oversized, slouchy key ideas and concepts were counteracted by elements of off centred eccentrics, as 80s and 90s inspired quirky prints and slogans swindled their way into the collection, set amidst black satin sweaters. The collection of subtle strength came alive through its underlying dominance of elegance, which was constantly challenged and opposed through shock tactics and sometimes questionable inspiration.
